3 field guides for a clearer view of route design.

Route design is the work of turning a connection into a plan a traveler can understand. These articles consider endpoints, crossings, transport mode, estimated time, multi-stop constraints, and the mobile handoff. A useful route explanation survives beyond the original screen because its essential instructions are clear in text as well as on the map.

Start with the route finder guide to review the line itself. Read the planning article when order and timing matter, and the iOS guide when the journey will be followed on a phone. Use the same criteria when comparing alternatives. Keep uncertainty about access or arrival conditions separate from confirmed instructions, and do not let a visually simple path hide a complicated final approach or an appointment schedule that has not been checked.
